On this Thanksgiving day 2009 I am thankful for the following things:

1. Family – I plan to be with my family today, I have family close and will be with them for Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.  I am thankful for having family, for having the kind of family that sticks together in life, whatever it may bring.

2. Friends – I am thankful to have friends that share my interests and push me to be a better person.

3. My Dog Bear – I am thankful for my dog who is always there to greet me when I come home and sleeps at the foot of my bed when I am sleeping and on the bed when I am gone.  (That is the only time that he can get away with it.)  He doesn’t ask for much, only a little food, water and a nice squeeky toy.

4. I am thankful for nature where I see the hand of God. Always remember to stop and smell the lavendar or hug a tree.

5. A job – I am thankful for the opportunity to be useful in this life, and to make a difference.  Also having money is kinda nice.

6. The internet – I am thankful for this place that I visit frequently for pleasure, work, learning, shopping, news and friendship.

7. Giving – I am thankful that I have all that I need and that I can share with a few others that have less.

And if you are reading this today, Happy Thanksgiving Day to you.

JFK – We remember

It has been 46 years since JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.  I was in school and heard the news bulletin over the loudspeakers piped into each classroom.  After the announcement of his death we were released to go home.  At home we stayed glued to the news channels, (all channels),  for the next few days until the funeral.  I remember it all.

I remember the Warren Commission and the resulting report that was released showing what they discovered.  I now have that 888 page report from my mother but it can also be viewed online  here.    I am not sure I have ever believed the Warren Report that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.  For others that may have the similar thoughts about the assassination of JFK, you can see a multitude of archives here.  The Mary Ferrell Foundation is a great place for research and has a multitude of essays and multimedia of the events that took place.

Let us not forget all those who fought bravely.

This Tribute is to Pat Higley who was a paratrooper in Vietnam and didn’t come home.  To my kids, Pat was your uncle.  I only met him a few times before he was deployed.  All I know about him is that he loved music and sports and family.
