I just read on the wall street journal that the McCain health care plan wants to cut medicare and medicad.

From the Wall Street Journal a Quote:

“John McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts of $1.3 trillion over 10 years to the government programs.”

Now I understand that the Medicare program has opportunities for reform, but to say this is like shooting himself in the foot especially if he wants support in Florida.  Isn’t that where a lot of seniors go to retire in the sun?

I would think it would be better to focus on fraud in the system first.  If you have parents, and they go to the hospital, keep tabs on what specialists come in to see them that are actually related to the illness your parent currently has.  Many times, it is an open ticket to bill medicare for second opinions or tests that aren’t actually needed just because the government is footing the bill.  Example:  a neurologist coming in and billing for services when the illness is not related to the brain.
